Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take insurance?
No. The financial contract is between myself and the client. If you live in California, I can provide you with an invoice that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement. The invoice outlines dates of service, cost, diagnostic code, my CA license, and my NPI Number.
What forms must I sign?
Prior to our first session, the client must sign two forms:
1. HIPAA form (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996)
2. Working Agreement (It states that the client will pay for completed sessions, and the client understands that that I do not provide coverage when I’m on vacation, nor will I testify in court on a client’s behalf.)
Am I committed to a certain number of sessions?
No. I invoice you monthly, you pay monthly, and you may stop at any time.
What if I need to cancel a session?
Sessions must be cancelled with at least 48 hours notice or you will be charged in full.
Is there a special rate for a package?
No. All sessions are $200 for 50 minutes.
How do virtual sessions work?
All sessions are conducted via phone call. All you need is a private space and reliable service.
How long does therapy typically last?
This varies widely from person to person. Some clients work with me for several months; others for a year or more. We’ll discuss your goals early on and revisit them periodically together.
What is sandplay therapy, exactly?
Prior to the pandemic, Dr. Hartshorn utilized Sandplay Therapy in her work with adults. Sandplay is a non-verbal method of working with the unconscious. Using miniatures, the client creates physical scenes which are rich with context, emotions and symbols. The images provide guidance and strength for change in ways that words cannot.
